We integrate our Catholic faith throughout each school day. Our religion curriculum is called Spirit of Truth, and in kindergarten, we focus on Jesus and His life and relationship with us. In weekly Catechesis of the Good Shepherd lessons, students participate in interactive, hands on learning activities to learn more about religious history and the Mass. We attend Adoration each Thursday as a class, where we practice reverence and prayer. Finally, on Fridays and Holy Days of Obligation, we attend Mass.
We use the Being a Reader curriculum for reading. Whole group lessons encourage students to listen to a wide variety of texts (books, poems, and songs) and think thoroughly about different parts of the text each day. Small group lessons focus more on phonics skills, linking letters to letter sounds. These skills are important as students begin their reading journey in kindergarten.
We also use the Heggerty Curriculum for Phonemic Awareness, which is all about manipulating word sounds. This curriculum reinforces critical skills that are necessary to grow as readers and writers!
Our social studies curriculum through TCI focuses on the pillars of history, civics, geography, and economics.
We use the Being a Writer Curriculum for writing in kindergarten. We begin the year with telling stories through illustrations, and as the year progresses, and we strengthen our phonics skills, the students will add words to their stories!
