Monthly Health Ministry Meeting
The Health Ministry offers services to parish members such as blood drives, gift of life presentations, flu clinic, and educational seminars. The Health Ministry meets monthly on Zoom. Stayed tuned for when we resume meetings in person. If you are interested in joining this ministry, please contact the parish office.

Autumn 2026 Blood DriveSunday, October 11, 2026, 9:00am - 2:00pm
OUR LAST BLOOD DRIVE was Sunday, October 11, 2026. Our next blood drive is Sunday, January 31 2027.
The schedule is available online for those interested in securing a specific time. We encourage all eligible donors to make time for blood donation, either with Versiti of Michigan or The American Red Cross. Both organizations allow you to search for a drive based on location (zip code) and dates/times that you are available. We especially appreciate appointments scheduled in advance of the drive weekend.
The Health Ministry team would like to thank everyone who donated blood, or attempted to do so, at the Versiti blood drive on August 9. Thanks to organizer Trish Durocher-Cupka and thanks to Richard Cupka for his help in setting up and closing down the event.10/11/2026 Drive Results:
Goal: 25 units
Registered: 20 donors
Collected: 29 units 17 Whole Blood 6 Double Reds
The IMPACT of this blood drive will affect 90 INDIVIDUALS. Many have life-threatening illness or injuries, so you have helped these individuals as well as their families and friends. Thank you for your generous spirit and your time. And thanks to those who tried to donate but could not for any reason. Thanks to all the donors, this blood drive exceeded the goal given to us by Versiti.

2026 Flu Vaccine Clinic
Sunday Oct. 4 9am-1:30pmThe Health Ministry team, along with the University of Michigan Health Community Health Services, hosted a flu vaccine clinic on October 4, 2026. The vaccines were free and no insurance was needed to get the vaccine.
The 2026-2027vaccines for the USA are trivalent, targeting three flu virus strains. We had two types of flu vaccines available:1) FLUAD Seqirus Inc. which is the high dose for senior 65 and older and
2) FluLaval GlaxoSmithKline for 6months -64 years.
*The high-dose vaccine, FLUAD*, produced by Seqirus, an Australian company, and manufactured in N. Carolina, utilizes inactivated viruses. Flu vaccinations have been shown to have benefits such as reducing the incidence of flu illnesses, hospitalizations, and even the risk of flu-related mortality.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the flu vaccine for most people as well as the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine for pregnant women and people over 75. Adults ages 60 – 74 who are at increased risk for severe RSV are recommended to get a flu vaccine as well as the newest COVID vaccine in time for winter.

The St. Andrew Health Ministry Commission hosted a presentation by Dementia Friendly Saline (Now called "Dementia Friendly Services") on Sunday, March 16. The topic was:
Dementia: Reducing Risks/Advancing Treatment
Learn about new, reliable evidence on practical ways people can decrease their risk of dementia, about new drugs that are beginning to slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s, and the implications they have for eventually conquering this life-changing illness. Bring your comments and questions about dementia including caregiving and other resources.
Presenter: Jim Mangi, PhD Longtime Alzheimer’s Association Community Educator, Chair of Dementia Friendly Saline, and Alzheimer’s caregiver for 17 years.
